Okay, this is how I know I'm a giant homo: the moment I heard about the Hello Kitty theme park, I knew I had to visit. It's about 45 minutes from Shinjuku station (bring a book for the long, boring train ride!), but once you've arrived in Tama City just look for the giant dome at the top of the hill, as the park itself is completely indoors. Inside the park, the centerpiece is a giant tree which doubles as a stage for enormous Kitty-themed production numbers, sort of like a huge parade but confined to going in a circle around the tree. There are a handful of attractions (none of them could be called thrill rides, unless you get a thrill from non-stop Hello Kitty & friends cuteness LIKE I DO) as well as several restaurants and shops. The three things you can't miss: the stage production of the Wizard of Oz (updated for modern times, starring Hello Kitty and her family), your photo with any of the wandering Sanrio characters (hello new Facebook picture!), and of course, the giant gift shop near the exit (featuring some inexpensive yet pricelessly-kitchy HK merchandise).
